About the Project
The East Timor Quilt project is designed to encourage all people - regardless of age, occupation or age - to donate an image which will be placed on the virtual quilt.
The Quilt will - at an appropriate time in the future,
be used by the East Timor Campaigns around the world to support the 'Call
for Freedom'.
The aim is to 'collect' an image for each of the
people who have been murdered over the last 23 years by the Indonesian
authorities.
It is estimated that during this time between 212,000 and 242,000 have been murdered - or disappeared!
As the quilt develops, we will divide this to allow the construction of national quilts that have been donated.
The East Timor Campaign will, in due course, appoint a group of artists and designers to select images from the quilt which will be used in specific wayby the International Campaigns to commemorate the lives of thise who have perished and to support the aims of increasing public awareness of the plight of the population of East Timor.
